markandmarietravelAfter Uruguay we had a sea day on Star Princess heading south along Argentina's coast before docking at Puerto Madryn. We took an excursion that involved a two-hour bus ride through Patagonia - which was incredibly, incredibly dull - before arriving at the Punta Tombo nature reserve. Here we saw hundreds of Magellanic Penguins in the wild with plenty of chicks still retaining some of the soft brown feathers of youth, and it's where we learned that the sound of a penguin shouting is indistinguishable from that of a donkey braying. We were also fortunate enough to spot guanacos in the area which with vicuñas are the only wild species of camelid in South America, the llamas and alpacas being domesticated.
